An insurance manager from Worksop, who suffers from a heart condition, led a team of colleagues from across South Yorkshire to take part in a marathon over the course of a month.
13 team members from Swinton Group branches in Sheffield, Huddersfield, Doncaster, Chesterfield, Grimsby, Worksop, Rotherham, Barnsley and Hull raised £3,000 by walking, cycling, swimming or running a mile a day in aid of the British Heart Foundation, as part of a monthly marathon.
John Spriggens, Customer Service Manager at Swinton’s Worksop branch, said: “We’ve all enjoyed getting involved and collectively completed 26 miles by walking at lunch time, running to work and swimming in the evenings.
“The team supported me because I suffer from ventricular tachycardia, a life threatening heart condition. I’ve been fitted with a pacemaker which has been invaluable and has saved my life a number of times. I wanted to give something back to the local community and a national charity that undertakes research into heart conditions.”
The money raised will be used to purchase a portable defibrillator for The Blues Sports Club in Gainsborough, as well as a specialist cabinet to store it in and the rest of the funds will be donated to the British Heart Foundation.
