A Milton Keynes resident who runs the successful charity Love Woburn Sands is celebrating after winning a community hero award.
Swinton Group launched a nationwide search as part of its diamond anniversary celebrations to find 10 'diamonds' who make a difference in their local communities.
Stef Muzz from Milton Keynes has won the award for his work with Love Woburn Sands, a project which was founded in 2013. He runs 12 activities which help to bring local residents closer together, including delivering medicines, a walk and talk group and IT learning. The charity also helps with transport for those in isolated areas and combats loneliness in the elderly by working with schools, churches and the local council.
Stef has a pool of 30 volunteers working alongside him, including 18 children during each school term.
Speaking at the cheque presentation, which took place at Swinton’s Bletchley branch on Wednesday 13th September, Stef said: “The competition is a great way to celebrate the good work happening in local communities and the donation will make a huge difference to Woburn Sands.
“We plan to use the donation for a developing youth project which will help school children to volunteer in the local community.”
Nicolo Mattia, customer service manager at Swinton Group’s Bletchley branch, said: “Stef’s commitment to Love Woburn Sands is truly inspiring and the activities and programmes the charity provides are invaluable to those of all ages of the local community.
“We designed our search for ‘Swinton Diamonds’ to celebrate local heroes like Stef. We hope this donation will help him continue the important work he is doing. Community spirit is incredibly important to us at Swinton, so this is our chance to give something back to those who go the extra mile.”
Swinton Group is donating to community organisations and charities up and down the country throughout September as part of its 60th anniversary celebrations.
