What is No Claims Bonus?

A No Claims Bonus is the number of claim free years that you have had an insurance policy in your own name. You may also have heard the term no claims discount, this is the amount reduced from your annual premium as a result of building up your no claims bonus.

Need to send proof of your No Claims Bonus to us?

If you have not been insured with us within the last two years or have held insurance with any other company in this time then you will need to send us a copy of your no claims bonus. 

Proof of your no claims can be:

  • Scanned or photographed and emailed to us at

Where can I find proof of my NCB?

You can normally find your stated no claims years on your bike insurance renewal notice, or you can also request it from your previous insurer. They will normally send you a letter or email stating the total number of No Claims Bonus years that you have.

As more insurers move to online you may have this provided by email, or find it in a secure online account. You can forward this on as a PDF or email. (The information contained in the documents must be clear and legible.)

What do I need to provide as proof?

The following documents are suitable as proof of NCB:

  • Your latest renewal notice
  • An up-to-date No Claims Bonus letter or email from your previous insurer

The following information should be present and clearly legible in any proof that you send to us:

  • Your name
  • The name of your last insurer and logo/letterhead
  • Policy number
  • Policy expiry date
  • Number of no claims years

Please note:

We can not accept a Statement of Fact (without a renewal letter), a Certificate of Motor Insurance or a Policy Schedule as proof of your No Claims Bonus if it doesn’t clearly show your name and the information stated above.

If you are emailing  proof to us, typically an image taken on your mobile will suffice. For images the file type should be a jpeg or a PDF.

Please ensure that the information contained in any proof is clearly legible.

What happens when I’ve sent my NCB proof?

If everything is in order, we’ll log your NCB on our systems and let you know. If there are any issues, we will either write to you or call you on the contact number you provided when you purchased your policy.

What happens if I don’t send it?

If you don’t send your proof of NCB to us, you will be sent reminders, and if your proof is not received your policy may be cancelled. If you are having difficulty obtaining proof, please call us on 0800 316 3915.

Do I need to send proof if I’ve been insured with Swinton before?

If you have been insured with us within the last two years and have not held insurance with any other company in this time then you will not need to send us a copy of your No Claims Bonus. Please make us aware if you have held a policy as we will need to check your previous information.
