Third Party Bike Insurance Explained

What is third party insurance and what does it cover?

By law, you must have motorbike insurance to drive in the UK, and a third party policy is the minimum amount of cover you can get.

It’s unlikely that you’ll be covered for repairs to your bike in the case of an accident, but you will be protected against any damage or injury you cause to any other person, vehicle, animal or property.

Is third party cheaper than other insurance policies?

It isn’t always cheaper. Sometimes comprehensive cover can be the same price as, or less than, third party cover - especially for younger drivers riding 125cc engines.

What’s different between third party/third party, fire and theft?

Third party, fire and theft usually covers everything that third party insurance does, but it has added protection against:

  • The theft of your bike
  • Your bike being damaged or destroyed in a fire
